Solar panels have a quirk: they only output maximum power at a specific voltage. This sweet spot is called the Maximum Power Point (MPP), but it constantly shifts with changing light and temperature. MPPT technology is how inverters track it down in real time.
Three Classic AlgorithmsPerturb & Observe (P&O)Nudge the voltage slightly. If power goes up, keep going. If down, turn back. Simple and cheap, but it oscillates around the peak and can get confused by sudden light changes.
Incremental Conductance (INC)Uses the math: dP/dV = 0 at the peak. High accuracy, no oscillation, but needs more computing power and better sensors.
Hill ClimbingAdjusts duty cycle step by step toward higher power. Similar to P&O — step size is the eternal trade-off.

What About Shadows?Partial shading creates multiple peaks on the power curve. Classic algorithms get stuck on small hills. That's when Particle Swarm, Genetic Algorithms, or module-level MPPT come to the rescue.
Bottom LineThere's no best algorithm — only the right one for the job. Squeezing every drop of free sunlight: that's what a good inverter does.
